The Duke Canine Cognition Center welcomed seven new puppies from Canine Companions for Independence®, the leading assistance dog non-profit in the Unites States. Researchers from Duke and NC State will be comparing rearing methods during the critical period of brain development: 8-20 weeks. The goal is to give the puppies a head start to increase their chances of success. The more puppies that graduate from training, the more assistance dogs become available for children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities.
