1. History:

 The Golden Retriever comes in 3 variants the American, the British & the Canadian!
 They were bred in Scotland in the mid-19th century by Lord Tweedmouth
 Goldens used to fetch dead birds for the kings.
 Goldens were bred with water dogs and hence have webbed paws and are excellent swimmers.

2. Basic Info:

Cost: 15000-25000 INR or 600$-800$ in the US
Average Weight: 65-75 pounds (male), 55-65 pounds (female)
Average Height: 23-24” (male), 22- 23” (female)
Life Expectancy: 10-12 years
Colors: Dark Golden, Light Golden, Cream, Golden
Group: Sporting group

 Needs a medium house.
 It needs 30-40 minutes of daily exercise with a cool temperature.
 Consider raising him from birth if you live in cities with a hot temperature.

4. Diseases:

A golden is most likely to fall ill to these 3 diseases

• Elbow dysplasia
• Skin issues
• And Cancer

 The top 2 can be taken care of by regular exercises and timely vet visits.
 Make sure you are exposing them to various pets and people with different age groups.
 Avoid fatty foods, exercise him regularly and stop over-treating to get rid of obesity.

5. Temperament:

 Goldens have a good temperament and are excellent People Pleasers. They know what owners are feeling and try to make him/her happy.
They are used to help people with PTSD, Autism, and also to help Non-Verbal Kids.
 Golden with less owner interaction is a terror!
A Bored golden is not a happy dog and tends to grow aggressive and agile.

6. Grooming:

 A golden retriever does not release odors soon after he has had a bath with a dog shampoo, and hence can a bath once in a month is just fine.

 But they shed very much.

 Apart from this for all the new owners, you will have to cut his nails once a month and brush his teeth twice or thrice a week.
