Andy Kroeker, E.D. of the West Elgin Community Health Centre, and David James, Board Chair, introduce their 2015-2018 Strategic Plan and Stakeholder Consultation.

AK: In the past six months, we worked with Platinum Leadership and the Kovacs Group to develop a new strategic plan. See: http://wechc.on.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/strat-plan-2015.pdf

DJ: Through our planning process, the Centre connected with more than 300 people, including community members, clients, staff, partners and the Board of Directors. We asked people for their ideas about the community’s needs and how the Centre could respond.

We listened to the voice of our stakeholders. We have chosen to focus on four specific areas for the next three years:
• Delivering timely, coordinated access to care;
• Engaging with, listening and responding to our communities;
• Creating a collaborative environment where staff, volunteers and Board feel valued and supported; and,
• Providing quality services that add value for our communities, partners and funders

AK: What does this mean? What can people expect from the West Elgin Community Health Centre in the next three years? Let’s take a closer look at the four pillars of the Centre’s strategic plan.

DJ: We will work with our partners to find the most effective, efficient and responsible ways to provide quality care and more seamless delivery of services. In the next three years we will put into operation a new advanced access system to provide same-day or next-day appointments to clients in need. We will increase the number of clients we serve, and help guide people to specialized services such as Diabetes or Mental Health and Addictions services. These strategies will improve accessibility and offer our clients more opportunities to receive the care they need as quickly as possible.

AK: Communication is essential to any relationship, including the relationship an organization has with its stakeholders. In the next three years, the Centre will be intentional about how it engages, listens to, and responds to its communities. We will establish a Client Council to directly hear from clients about their experiences and needs. We will connect with stakeholders and provide updates so the community is fully aware and better informed about what programs and services we offer. We will continue to advocate for those most in need of our help. By doing these things, the Centre will strengthen our relationships and help community members to make more informed choices about their health.

DJ: Organizations are strongest when its people feel valued and supported. At West Elgin Community Health Centre, we will strengthen our organizational culture through collaboration, continuing to encourage staff to participate in training and development opportunities, and recruiting new staff as needed. We are committed to supporting a strong team so we can go above and beyond for the people we serve.

AK: To create more caring, vibrant, and healthy communities, we have to think differently about how we offer programs and services. We are committed to providing excellent service. We will work hard to continuously improve so that the programs and services we offer are aligned with our communities’ needs. In the next year we will participate in the Accreditation process and will help to lead our local Primary Health Care plan.

DJ: The next three years will be filled with lots of activity as the Centre’s staff, volunteers and Board work to make our vision of caring, vibrant, healthy communities a reality.

AK: This planning process has helped us to chart our strategic priorities and build a road map to the future we want for ourselves and those we serve. We are thankful for the many people who shared their time and ideas with us. At West Elgin Community Health Centre, we look forward to building caring, vibrant, healthy communities in the days, months, and years ahead.
